It's official. The days are now getting longer, not that I've noticed yet.
They are also getting colder, with some good frosts and snow dumps on our more southern airfields.
In the north the ground just gets a bit wet and gumboots are the order of the day.
On a clear winters day though, you can see forever.
And the lawns don't need mowing.
There's always a reason to go flying!
All problems now solved.
Your welcome.

The weekend was a great success
Some highlights were...
Mike Strathern letting us all no we can put anything in our gliders (even TV's) as long as we get engineering sign off!
Eileen Henderson taught us all about how we learn, using juggling as an interactive example and how this relates to instructional technique.
Tim Bromhead showed us all he can juggle and gave two excellent presentations on ADS-B display and the benefits and pitfalls of modern battery options.
Abbey Delore gave a superbly entertaining and inspiring talk on her role in marketing internationally the epic Bluff to Cape Reinga flight.

From the history files. The Upper Valley Gliding Club airstrip set the scene for the filming of a Coca-Cola commercial for Japanese television in January 1992. Producer Kevin McGrath said his Sydney-based company "Size Inc" chose the Kaitoke airstrip because it was the prettiest they could find.
Membership Display Panel
From the desk of the Chairman of the Membership Development Committee, Brian Sharpe, "If you don't measure it, you can't manage it". This Membership Vario (left) displays each month whether GNZ is gaining or losing members - The Membership Altimeter (right) displays on a Year to Date basis. Let's all think about what we can do to keep these dials going up!

Logbooks back in stock
Pilot Logbook
Hard back glider pilot log books are back in stock.
Do you need to file an OPS-10 as well as CA005? This question comes up a lot. The CAA must be
notified immediately by phone after an "accident", along with the relevant CFI (MOAP Ref page 61
& 62). A Form CA005 Occurrence Report must then be filed with CAA within ten days.
The view of Gliding NZ is that every incident or accident is also an opportunity to learn something
that could prevent a similar occurrence in the future, and for this reason an OPS-10 report should
also be filed with the ROO even though this is not explicitly requested in AC 2-08.
A link to the GNZ incident reporting form (OPS 10) can be found in the very top menu bar on the GNZ homepage, just to the right of the 'Classified Adverts'. You can now fill this form out on your phone at the airfield so no excuses.
